Outsend and useSend

useSend and Outsend both send through Amazon SES. useSend gives you the code and lets you run it yourself. Outsend is hosted only, and is built around the evidence behind every send.

01Where useSend wins

Open source, and you can run it yourself

useSend is AGPL-3.0 and self-hostable, including with your own AWS credentials. If owning the code or keeping mail inside your own AWS account is the requirement, useSend meets it and we do not.

Cheaper volume

Both of us are free for 3,000 emails a month. After that useSend is cheaper: $10 covers 25,000 emails against our 10,000, and extra mail is $0.40 per 1,000 against our $1. If cost at volume decides it, useSend wins that comparison.

Typed SDKs across several languages

Official SDKs for TypeScript, Python, Go, and PHP, alongside the REST API and an SMTP relay. That is more first-party client code than we publish today.

02Where we differ

Events keep the provider's raw payload

Every event stores the receiving provider's original response alongside our normalised version, so you see the actual SMTP code and reason rather than a status label.

Reputation is scored per domain and per workspace

Sending is halted automatically before a problem with one domain becomes a deliverability problem for the rest of your account, and new identities warm up on a ramp rather than starting at full volume.

Built for agents as well as people

An MCP server and a CLI sit alongside the API, and each returns the evidence behind an outcome, so an agent can send, inspect a trace, and explain a failure without screen-scraping a dashboard.

03Verdict

If you want to self-host, or cheaper mail at volume, choose useSend. It is a good product and the open-source model is a real advantage. If you want the provider's own evidence on every message and reputation that is isolated per domain, try Outsend.

We quote competitor prices in one place only. The price calculator shows each one with its source and the date we checked it. Confirm it on useSend's pricing page before you decide.
